It's time to give...to those less fortunate.

Let's make this year our most generous ever!  Come one, come all!  Right after making our Tumbleweed Snowmen, we'll meet at the tunnel to parade around town collecting donations for those in need.  Happy Holidays to all!

Tumbleweed Snowmen

Since we haven't had major storms in quite a few years, we haven't had driftwood on our beach (which means no driftwood Christmas Tree).  Sue had an idea to try something new this year...Tumbleweed Snowmen!  So go find your tumbleweeds and get ready to make a Tumbleweed Snowman!  We'll meet at the entrance to town at 10AM on Saturday, December 13th and turn our tumbleweeds into snowmen!  Bring your tumbleweeds, props, and holiday spirit!

Real Estate Update - December

A new property came on the market on December 3rd...great street & amazing views!  It's located at 7170 Carpinteria Avenue.

6822 Santa Barbara Avenue went into "pending" status as of December 5th.

The vacant lot at 7099 Sunland Avenue is still pending.

Real Estate Update - November

Prices are coming up in LC...  7003 Vista Del Rincon sold for $435,000.  This is the highest-priced sale LC has had on the hill side of Vista Del Rincon since at least 1988 (according to public records).  Welcome to the 'hood, new neighbors...you scored an amazing home/property with one of the best views in town!!!

Chili Cook Off News

A big THANK YOU to all who participated and made this year's Chili Cook Off a success!  There were 14 delicious entries, fabulous live music, fun chalk-art for the kids, terrific company, and spectacular weather.  What more could you ask for?!

Are You Ready?

The annual LC Chili Cookoff is tomorrow!  Get that chili cookin' and bring it on down to Surfside/Sunland at 3:00pm tomorrow (Saturday, October 18th).  It needs to be warm, in a crockpot.  Power will be provided.  The event will kick off at 4:00pm with live music, a sidewalk chalk art contest, and plenty of company.  See you then!

It looks like an offer was accepted on the lot at 7099 Sunland Avenue.  We'll have to wait for COE to see what the final price was...

New property listing above LC (looks like it's to the north, above the oil refinery)...  40+ acres, amazing views, and utilities available!

The lot at the top of Sunland Ave. has been drastically reduced in price, from $75,000 to $49,500.  The home on Santa Barbara Ave. has dropped in price as well, from $395,000 to $380,000.  The "Seacliff" house at 7003 Vista Del Rincon is still pending...waiting for that one to close any day now.

A big THANK YOU to all the Coastal Cleanup Volunteers!

Thank you to everyone who came out and donated their time and energy to help keep our beach (and bike path) healthy and beautiful!  A wide variety of trash was collected, with cigarette butts, bottle caps, and beer cans bringing in the biggest numbers.  Lots of plastic as well, with the oddest find being an abandoned campsite with two tents, two broken and rusted chairs, assorted clothing, and a faux crow.  The dumpster was overflowing after this cleanup!  Let's always bring back what we take down, and remind others to do the same.  

Please join us this Saturday to help keep our beach beautiful!

1st Day of School

Carpinteria Jr. Guards take 3rd in Fiesta Competition!

Congrats to the Carp JGs for taking 3rd place overall at the Santa Barbara Fiesta Competition!  This is quite an accomplishment, as there were 12 teams attending, from Avila Beach up north to Newport Beach down south.  Not only are the Carp JGs gnarly competitors, but they have fun doing it!

"The Day After" Beach Cleanup

Yesterday was record-setting as far as crowds go on LC Beach, and the firework show last night was spectacular (thank you Tim!).  A big thank you to all that showed up this morning to clean up and keep our beach looking beautiful!

It's an annual tradition for LC kids!

Here's what the City of Carp has to say about the program:

"Carpinteria Junior Lifeguards is a summer institution.  Junior Guards, ages 9-17, learn many aspects of lifeguarding as they engage in a variety of aquatic and beach activities.  Skills learned include an introduction to CPR, first aid, beach and wave dynamics and ocean science.  The program emphasizes physical fitness and the value of spirited, friendly competition in running, paddle board and swimming races.
Safety is important so participants must be able to pass a basic pool and ocean swim test.   In the ocean the participant must be able to swim approximately 100 yards with no time limit.  The pool swim is also 100 yards, but it must be completed in 00:02:20 minutes.  These tests are only for the purpose of measuring ability as it pertains to each child’s safety in the water."
